The essential guide to collecting First Names in Previews/Tests.
Within Botmock, if you're looking to capture Name, you have the option of creating your own custom entity list of names to connect to a variable, but with our latest release, we now have a built-in Name entity option as well that takes the most common male/female first names and allows you to utilize them properly in Previews and Usability Testing.
Currently, the built-in Name entity will only understand the most common male and female first names from around the world. Built-in first and last names are not supported by default in Botmock just yet.
To get started with capturing first names with the built-in entity, you have to start by creating a new Variable in your project. In this example, we will call the variable "FirstName" for clarity. We'll leave the Variable Type as "Text" and will leave the input for default values as blank.
The main step here is to go ahead and select the proper Entity Type, which is "Name" in the dropdown. Once selected, the variable will link to the Built-In Name entity, and you will not have to set up a custom entity type with any custom values.
Once you have selected the Name entity as the main part of your variable, the next step is to actually test it out and work to make sure the name is caught as a variable to be used around a conversation flow.
Once you have attached your "Name" variable to an intent, you can simply type out a name during a Preview, and you should be able to see the process of storing happen right away in the form of the response as well, where it give the name back to you.
Again, just a reminder that the only names by default are the top Male and Female names from the around the world. If you are looking to use your own name set, please see our tutorial on creating new entities.
